He found my post explaining that putting a video of a russian terrorist attack in 2011 and saying that it comes from Belgium this morning to be “sickening”, justifying his work by how greatly he covered the Malaysian crash and the november terrorist attacks in paris...

Nothing like being arbitrary shut up by someone who works for the press...

I see your point, but personally I’d prefer to not see any of the videos from any of the terrorist attacks. Hearing about them is enough for me. I have never watched the boston marathon bombing despite having friends that just finished or were within a mile of finishing, I refuse to watch any 9/11 footage of the towers falling or the planes striking the building, I don’t want to see the video of hussein being hanged, and I certainly don’t need to see this. I think it is more powerful to read or watch interviews with people that were there, first responders, and the loved ones that were left behind. The attention the terrorists themselves get is sickening to me.

I like Tyler and his stuff. 99% of the time it’s a breath of fact-and-logic-filled fresh air compared to most of what gets published in Gawkerland. However, it does seem to me like he sometimes has some thin skin. I’ve seen him dig into the comments and defend things that probably aren’t worth his time.

Then again, I suppose that’s better than publishing garbage and refusing to engage people when they call you out on it.

Most journalism now on the Internet is click-bait.

Back in 2001, I was in Afghanistan and a little Afghan LTC was so furious at the media coming in and portraying everything wrong. He was about 5'4 of fury and I had 50lbs on him and had a hard time holding him back from beating them with a stick.

Afghan LTC: I hate Western Media...they are the worst gift you can give to the world.

I really believe we need to make Media non-profit or we’ll end up with more Fox News and nonsense like this.

He is payed for that. And yes, mistkae do happen. Having say something like “Yeah sorry, got carried away...” would have been fine by me. Defending his totally inacurrate video (“second part of it was correct!!”) and putting me back into the greys for it on the other hand, is utterly ridiculous.

Diminishing will to market share would not happen even if you successfully severed profit motive (unfeasible), and making the media nominally nonprofit would not sever self-interest. In fact, that “unbiased” mark of being nonprofit would be waved as a banner as the media engaged in their greatest heights of Durantism ever. Tying media to the government... even worse, in subtly different ways.

I think you misunderstood what happened here. He did not send you to the greys. You weren’t followed by FA before, so you were always in the greys. (We have to manually follow everyone and it doesn’t always work out that way, so sorry.)

As for the video: part of it was incorrect, so we swapped it out with a corrected one as soon as we knew. These kinds of things happen in a fast-moving breaking news situation. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Also, we added a note explaining the video was swapped out; we should have done that from the beginning.

In general the writers of this site don’t unfollow or block people unless they’re deeply offensive or out-of-control trolling.

Hello Patrick! No, I have never been greyed by Foxtrot-Alpha before unless it was at the very beginning of the blog itself... My first posts on these terrorist attacks were ungreyed right away, as were all the comments I made on the many different FoxTrot-Alpha articles. As soon as Tyler answered, all the posts I wrote were back into the greys. He clearly “unfollowed” me after that and I’m 100% sure about that. I have participated in enough Foxtrot-Alpha articles to know I wasn’t greyed until 1 or 2 hours ago.

I honestly don’t really care about being greyed there or not. It’s the attitude behind it, just after calling my post (that you can read yourself as I linked it on this post) “sickening”, that I don’t appreciate.

I like his articles and mentionned it in my answers before he got into it. But I like his articles when they are thought after and prepared. Not live-reported from 6 to 9000km away through the internet newsfeed tat he receives.
